At Visionarity we believe that Christmas is a great time to support initiatives that help to improve people’s lives!

Operating room’s back door

This year, we are proudly supporting “Surgery in Turkana”, a non-profit organisation whose main objective is to provide surgical care to the people of Turkana, Kenya.

In order to carry out this mission, surgeons leave behind their homes and families for 3 weeks in order to operate on over 200 patients. During this time, surgeons also provide financial aid to relocate and move patients to the Government Hospital in Lodwar. Here, patients are given all the surgical care they need to recuperate; including food, medicine and accommodation. Once fully recovered, “Surgery in Turkana” helps patients return to their village.

As part of this special occasion, we are delighted to invite you to embark on a new virtual mission: Participants have to achieve an average of 9,000 steps a day to reach Lake Turkana, Kenya, from various points on the map. Once the mission has been completed, Visionarity will make a special donation to this organisation.

During the journey, you’ll find information about the “Surgery in Turkana”, activities, and many other inspiring pictures and recommendations to enjoy along the way and to stay healthy during Christmas!

The challenge will run in our Visionarity platform from December 5th to January 6th and is completely free for those who wish to take steps in aid of a good cause.

ABOUT SURGERY IN TURKANA

Surgery Turkana was established in 2004, thanks to the initiative of the General Surgeons of the Spanish “Ramon y Cajal” Hospital and “Hospital Clínico San Carlos”, who formed a team and headed to the Government Hospital of Lodwar, in Turkana.

The organisation’s main objective is to provide surgical care to the people of Turkana. The area they cover not only includes the town of Lodwar, but also remote villages such as Nariokotome, which are often located hundreds of kilometres from the town.

In order to carry out this objective, the Surgery provides vital training to local physicians and nurses. This is a long-term project that includes sessions with staff at the Government Hospital, Lodwar. The team also offers online training from their native hospitals, allowing specialists, such as radiologists, to work closely with the staff in Lodwar.
